blow someone off

Postby James Trotta » Thu Apr 22, 2010 7:10 am

I met one girl at a party, and then saw her a week later. She saw me talking to another girl and said if things didn't work out with the other girl, that she would go home with me. Things worked out with the other girl, so I had to blow her off this time, but another time, I met a girl at a party and she asked me to walk her to another party 5 blocks away. I did, and then soon made out with her and messed around with her. Keep in mind, this was when I was 18 and 19 and part-way through 20 years old when I was a freshman and sophomre in college.

I set her up on a blind date but I guess she didn't like the guy because she blew him off on the very first day that they met.

Sometimes to "Blow Off" means to ignore someone or something; to skip an appointment with someone; to not attend something where one is expected.

In some cases it can be used to escape anger or to become angry; to lose one's temper as in "to blow off some steam". Such as "I was angry but I went to the gym for exercise and to blow off some steam."

You could say it like that but personally I would go with "I blew off my job interview because I got another job".
