The word "Bomb" can also mean something is very cool or great. Such as "That band we saw tonight was the bomb!"

I bombed the project so badly that there is no chance of getting back my boss's condifident

True but we have to note that when we bomb a test or something, bomb is a verb. If a band is the bomb, then bomb is a noun (and normally gets 'the').
