1.
The initial phase of the WebQuest is designed to give students a starting point.
By discovering which Multiple Intelligences they like and dislike students will
begin to see how their learning style matches various teaching styles. This
is not supposed to be prescriptive, but rather facilitative. For example if
a student's tests indicate that s/he prefers visual/ spatial intelligence, while
the student says that s/he prefers musical intelligence, then the student should
be encouraged to research musical intelligence. The WebQuest is designed primarily
for students working alone but could be easily adapted for students working
in groups. If groups are used you might consider evaluating collaborative task
working.
2.
The second step in the WebQuest is designed to help students deepen their understanding
of various intelligences. No doubt they will have some ideas about each intelligence
based on the test(s) they've taken. They should now have an opportunity to confirm
some predictions and re-evaluate others.
3.
At the third stage, students are given less guidance in the hope that they will
take control of their own learning (which is one of the basic aims of this WebQuest-
to empower students to control their own learning). Students are asked to find
some information by conducting their own web searches and to compare what they
read to what they've experienced in the past. Most significant is that students
are told they'll be able to report their findings any way they choose. Creativity
is certainly encouraged here! For example a student who has been researching musical
intelligence could write a song, while another student might write a report. Another
student might make a power point presentation. We feel that anything within reason
should be encouraged.
4. We feel that students need as
many ways to learn as they can get. We hope that students will take this opportunity
to develop one of the MIs that is not being used to its full potential at the
moment. A student who prefers using the verbal/linguistic intelligence, for example,
may also choose to consider incorporating the visual/ spatial intelligence into
his or her learning. The more resources a student has, the better!
5.
Students should be encouraged to be as creative (or traditional) in their 'reporting'
as they like. We hope that students will take this opportunity to use one of the
MIs which has been investigated in preparing this final project for your evaluation.
