Practice your Business English on the business message board. Look for opportunities to use the past perfect, had + past participle. This type of verb was used in the last sentence of the reading: The stock had fallen during the day's trading, but added 16 cents to $38.95 cents in electronic trade following the announcement. We use this tense to describe something that happened before a specific time in the past. In this case, the stock "added 16 cents" is the specific time in the bast. Before the stock added 16 cents, it had fallen.
